National Workshop on drafting Counter-terrorism legislation for the implementation of universal instruments against terrorism and the Inter-American Convention against Terrorism

A joint mission of CICTE and UNODC experts in antiterrorism legislation visited Managua May 3-4 to meet with national authorities and conduct a workshop in the National Assembly, with the assistance of the Foreign Ministry. The President of the National Assembly and the Vice Minister of Foreign Relations inaugurated the workshop. Approximately 50 officials from the three State branches of power participated, and, with support from the international CICTE and UNODC experts, analyzed the draft antiterrorism law currently pending in the Assembly since 2004. As a result of the workshop, congressional officials offered to send to the corresponding congressional committee within three weeks a report on the draft. The Foreign Ministry promised to keep moving the process forward so that Nicaragua could become Party to the seven international instruments pending to be incorporated into national legislation.
