Legislative Technical Assistance

On September 13^th and 14^th, the CICTE Secretariat and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime undertook a Legislative Technical Assistance mission in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  The participants were legislators involved with the processing and content of the Dominican Republic draft Law against Terrorism. The purpose of the mission was to learn about the status of the draft, to analyze the viability of formulating suggestions in order to adapt the law to the universal requirements and standards, to show the proposed changes, and to present the modified version for the consideration of the sponsor of the law, Deputy Pelegrín Castillo. The event was a successful continuation and culmination of the mission completed on July 3-7, 2006, carried out at the request of the Government of the Dominican Republic. The suggestions of the experts were fully appreciated and incorporated into the new draft, which will be reintroduced in Congress after September 17^th.
